Gowda tale

With Gowda and family committed to their ambitious project fondly called as  Biharisation of  Karnataka, this is the apt timing for me to recall an interview with Master Hiranyaya (a humorist and playwright) way back in 1997 when Deve Gowda was the chosen as PM. As such it was a surprise for most in India as no one knew who this fellow was. However some in Karnataka rejoiced as he was the first Kannadiga to be a PM. However Master Hiranyaya did not rejoice and made less favorable comments to his elevation as PM of India. On being queried for the reason, Master Hiranyaya in his characteristic style replied:
“I would be very happy to become a grandfather and I am looking forward to that to that day. However I would want to be a grandfather only after my son enters the wedlock and not before that!”

Brilliant articulation of Mr.Gowda’s capabilities. He is fit to be not more than a panchayat member.

Discoveries

Some of my finest discoveries over the last fortnight:

http://churumuri.wordpress.com/ - fantastic writing by some journalists from Mysore on subjects as varied as the burning fuel hike to tourist locations in Karnataka.

http://warfornews.blogspot.com/  - ever imagined what goes on in the news rooms of NDTV, Times Now and CNN-IBN. This blog brings you all the politicking that happens in these news stations

http://wink.com/ - something like http://del.icio.us/ (if you do not know this, then better late than never, immediately relish this delicious web tool)

How Premier Book Store Will Stay

This weekend pleasantly learnt that Premier Book Store on the Church Street in Bangalore is not closing down for now, at least not till April 2007.

I do not know what exactly attracts me and many others to this store, which just stacks up the books from the ground right up to the roof. If you are inside the store with a backpack, I am sure you will bring down many books as soon as you turn by even 5 degrees. Apart from the generous discount the store offers, what is it that this book stores attracts the book lovers of Bangalore, is not something that can be captured in writing?

Happy after hearing the good news I bought the last copy (officially off the shelves) of the book How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life by Kavya Vishwanathan who was caught plagiarizing. The teenage author writes well, but should have resisted the temptation to spruce up the novel by plagiarizing.
